Research Interests:

Subject of the scientific works: Biostatistics, Genetics, Psychiatry, Some Problems of the Theory of Probability and Mathematical Statistics. Order Statistics, Records, Limit Theorems and Distribution Theory, Mathematical Modeling in Geology and Chemical Engineering.

I am working with my students and colleagues on extreme value problems (order statistics, records and characterizations), control theory problems and some engineering problems.

In addition, the last seven years my research is mainly concentrated on identifying genes involved in human IQ and different psychiatric disorders. I’m working on the Collaborative Study on the Genetics of Alcoholism (COGA), the Finnish Twin Studies (Finn Twin12, Finn Twin16), the Irish Affected Sibling Pair Study of Alcohol Dependence (IASPSAD), Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) projects and some other projects of Human Genetics groups as Research Associate faculty member. I am involved in all stages of data analyses including methodological studies, data cleaning and preparation using the data from different sources. Multiple testing problems, nonparametric testing problems and estimation of their power are part of problems I am working on in parallel to genetics research. I’ve developed and working on the software which collects only necessary data from different GWAS analyses outputs and creates compact resulting files depending on selected options. This software runs several times Plink, Haploview, Excel and Visual Basic Applications on background depending on options.

Database programming is one of my hobbies for last 20 years.

Computer skills:

1. Statistical packages: SPSS (with coding), MINITAB, SAS (with macros), STATA, R (including user interfaces) for processing different forms of data and analyses.

2. MS Office programs.

3. I’ve created a program running automatically Plink association analyses with SNPs from different studies to check replications with COGA GWAS data and creating a resulting Excel file with full information (LD, significant p-values, permutation results, HWE and MAF information).

4. SQL servers: MS SQL, MySQL (with stored procedures, triggers).

5. Approximately 20 years of Visual Foxpro database design experience (all versions up to 9.0, preceded with Clipper, Foxbase, Dbase, Arago). As a senior programmer of Zirve Ltd. I developed the software “Icrapro” for law companies which covers all basic needs of lawyers in screening, reporting, financial calculations, creating different types of forms and etc. for Court case records.

6. I used Visual Basic, Fortran and Matlab for some technical and mathematical problems.

7. I use Perl for data manipulation and have an experience of Php and Java(with MySQL applications) programming.
